Rwanda lies on the East African plateau, between the water systems of the Nile and Zaire rivers passing in a north-south direction through the western part of the country. To the west of the divide, the land drops sharply to Lake Kivu in the Great African Rift Valley; to the east, the land falls gradually across the central plateau - its grassy highlands are the core areas of settlement of Rwanda's population - to the swamps and lakes on the country's eastern border

The journey to the north goes through the beautiful terraced hillsides that show much of Rwanda's landscape, gradually climbing to the base of the awesome Virunga volcanoes; sometimes five peaks can be seen. Overnight and dinner at Gorilla Nest Lodge/Kinigi Guest House.

MOUNTAIN GORILLA TRACKING
There will be gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a wonderful experience. Incase you are lucky; you can get to see the gorillas, spend an hour with them, and get back at the lodge in time for a late lunch. Some gorilla families however are more mysterious, and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy.
