22 Days Rwanda Classic
Day 1: Arrival
On arrivals at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your Adventure Trails representative and have you transferred to Cassia Lodge/The Lodge Kampala for overnight stay.
2: Depart for Murchison Falls National Park
Depart for Murchison Falls National Park; the biggest national park in Uganda with an area of 3840sqkm.The River Nile divides the park into North and South sectors and forms a fall where it flows over the western rift valley escarpment. Here the river is forced through a seven meter gap in the rocks and cascades into a boiling pot 43 meters below with a thundering roar and a beautiful rainbow.
Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge/Red Chilli Rest Camp.
Day 3: Game drive and Launch Cruise
After an early breakfast go for a game drive in the Northern sector of the park, it is with in this park that the natural beauty of the Nile is perfected. You will come across herds of elephants, giraffes, antelopes, Uganda Kobs, buffaloes, waterbucks, lions, and several bird species also the unusual saddle bill storks. Be back in time for your lunch. In the afternoon take a 3 hour launch cruise to the bottom of the falls you will come across pools of hippos, be meters away from the toothsome crocodiles with jaws wide open, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, lions, waterbucks, several antelope species, and a lot of birdlife. Day 4: Depart for Kibale National Park
After breakfast set again for Kibale National Park we'll take the Western scenic route over looking Lake Albert via Hoima and a lunch break in Fort Portal town which is 34 kms from the Main Park. The Park is home to several families of primates including habituated chimpanzees. It has 11 species of primates, including many families of chimps and colobus monkeys, buffalo, warthog, Uganda Kob and over 300 bird species. Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking
Early in the morning proceed to Kibale National park headquarters 8:00am for chimpanzee tracking. Tracking will begin and last for about 3hrs get back by mid noon. Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest national park will thrill you; look out for primates like the colobus monkeys, families of chimps, a diversity of birds and an abundance of butterflies and other tropical insects. You will have a picnic lunch there, and then you will take an optional visit to the Bigodi wetland sanctuary a superb ecotourism site established to protect the Magombe swamps-a haven of birds (137 species) and a number of primates. Overnight at the Ndali Lodge/Primates Lodge/Rwenzori View Guest House.
Day 6: Depart for Semliki National Park and Night game drive
After breakfast, we will depart by road for SemlikiWildlife Reserve; this scenic drive will take you down the eastern side of Lake Albert. Semliki reserve is situated in the basin of the Western Rift Valley. It is one of the most diverse habitats in Africa with wonderful examples of Riparian forest, borassus palm forest, gallery rain forest, and short and high grass savannas. Chimps exist next to elephant, lion and buffalo as well as the usual western Uganda species. Following dinner we will go on a night drive. This is the only place in Uganda where you can do a spot lit night drive. You never know what you may see. Often the big cats are sighted as well as the diminutive genet and serval cats. Unusual nocturnal dwellers also show themselves, such as the white tailed mongoose and slender mongoose, standard and pennant winged nightjars depending on the time of year. There are always surprises on the night drives. Overnight at Semliki Safari Lodge.
Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking and Game drive
After a cup of tea, you will go down into the beautiful gallery rainforest to track wild chimpanzees. Chimps are tracked by researchers in Semliki at dawn and dusk, as they tend to disappear in the middle of the day. There are also a number of bird species which are found in this pictures que forest. You will return to the lodge for lunch and the chance to relax by the pool and enjoy the tranquility of the Lodge. In the late afternoon you will go for a game drive, stopping along the way to watch the African sun dip below the horizon. Overnight at Semliki Safari Lodge.
8: Depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park We will enter the park via the Northern crater Area. With beautiful lakes and rich grasslands which are set deep in the crater valley, this is truly the most breathtaking scenery in the park. The park spreads over an area of 1978 sq kilometers in the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley 418 km from the capital Kampala and takes approximately 6 hours. The park is a home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, hippos, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, baboons and birds all typical riverrine savannah habitats and the famous Kazinga Channel. In the Southern Parts is the Ishasha sector with the tree climbing lions and the Maramagambo forest, one of the largest surviving natural forests in Uganda. The Northern part is traversed by the equator and is dominated by the scenery of crater lakes with lots of flamingos. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/Bush Lodge.
Day 9: Game drive and Launch Cruise
After breakfast, go for a morning game drive which reward you with an opportunity to view the big cats as well as a diversity of antelopes, elephants, buffalo, and a number of birds, return to the Lodge for Lunch and some relaxation before, going for an afternoon 2 hour launch cruise on the Kazinga channel that connects lake George to Lake Edward. The launch cruise will gift you with a chance to see a number of water birds, hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffaloes grazing on the shores. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/Bush Lodge.
Day 10: Chimpanzee tracking and depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Early morning we depart for Kyambura George, where we climb through a tropical forest to catch a glimpse of a variety of primates including the chimpanzee we return at 12:00pm we have lunch and we prepare our selves for a drive to Bwindi impenetrable forests Home to the rare Mountain gorillas After a five hour drive through villages, towns, highlands, and grazing lands southwest we get to Bwindi impenetrable forest. Overnight at Luxury Gorilla Forest camp /Mid Range Lake Kitandara luxury tents / Buhoma Lodge or basic at Buhoma Community Bandas.
Day 11: Gorilla Tracking
Early morning we have our break fast and after we gather at the Uganda wild life authority Bwindi headquarters for registering, get walking sticks and group up for pre-trek briefing. 8:00 am we start the gorilla trek which takes us between half and hour to up to whole day through a steeply forested landscape which has incredible dense under growth an experience of penetrating the impenetrable.
The experience of tracking and finding these great primates is very, exciting; there are 9 other primate species including chimpanzee, blue monkey, black and white colobus monkey, plus 300 bird species and 200 species of butter flies. Overnight at Luxury Gorilla Forest camp /Mid Range Lake Kitandara luxury tents / Buhoma Lodge or basic at Buhoma Community Bandas.
Day 12: Depart for Parc National Des Volcnans
After breakfast we will transfer to Parc National Des Volcans driving through the land of a thousand hills. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Lodge/Kinigi Guest House.
Day13: Gorilla Tracking
This day after breakfast you will go to the Rwanda Gorilla office headquarters and get the briefing from the guides, and then its off on to your adventure to meet these thrilling gentle giants of Rwanda. Your guide will take you through thick vegetation on a 1-7 hour trail, when you finally meet the gorillas, you will spend one hour with them. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Lodge/Kinigi Guest House
Day 14: Depart for Lake Bunyonyi:
After breakfast drive to the Lake Bunyonyi environs for a day of relaxation enjoying the beautiful scenery and serene environment. Lake Bunyonyi is the second deepest lava dammed lake in East and central Africa housing over 25 scenic Islands each with a different mythical tale for instance the punishment Island that tells of the pain and tears of many Bakiga women abandoned on the Island and left for dead for getting pregnant out of wedlock. You will take part in an optional activity of your choice. Overnight at Arcadia Cottages/Bunyonyi Overland Camp.
Day 15: Explore Lake Bunyonyi
Explore the area; maybe visit the bright and colorful local market at Kabale or take a canoe ride on lake Bunyonyi it self. Overnight at Arcadia Cottages/Bunyonyi Overland Camp.
Day16: Depart for Lake Mburo National Park
After break fast we will head for Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda's fourth National park was gazzeted in 1982. The Park covers an area surface of 256kmq. It offers varied scenic beauty hills and valleys. Later take the boat cruise on Lake Mburo which will last 2 hrs. Do an evening game drive, with a chance to view, Zebra, Impala, Topis, Wipsprings, Elands, Buffaloes, Hippos, Crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Overnight at Mantana Tented Camp/Rwonyo Camp.
Day17: Nature walk and drive to Kampala
After breakfast, go for a morning nature walk, and prepare to leave for Kampala lunch on the way. Arriving in Kampala and go through the Big Crafts center at the Uganda National theatre get the souvenirs to take back home. Overnight at Cassia Lodge/The Lodge Kampala.
Day 18: Depart for Jinja
Following a morning breakfast, we will depart for Jinja heading East passing coffee, Tea and Sugar plantations and the colorful roadside fruit/vegetable markets. The first stop is the Mabira Forest; here you will be able to see the primates, birds and butterflies. You will continue to the source of the Nile. This is a spot where John Speke first discovered the source of the Nile River. You will continue to Jinja Nile Resort/Sunset hotel where you will be staying. In the early evening, you will relax by the side of the swimming should you wish or go to Bujagali Falls where different cultural activities take place like Acrobatic, Dances, waterfalls. Overnight at Jinja Nile Resort/Sunset Hotel.
Day 19: Drive back to Kampala
Following a morning breakfast, we will depart back to Kampala arriving in the afternoon. On arrival in Kampala, your safari guide will transfer you to your hotel. Should you have the energy, your guide will take you to the theatre craft market where you can buy souvenirs for your self. Overnight at Cassia Lodge/The Lodge Kampala.
Day 20: Depart for Ngamba Islands
After breakfast, well head to Entebbe Pier and meet everybody at the meeting point to proceed to Ngamba Island, the Jane Good all Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The boat takes about 45 minutes across to Ngamba Island, crossing the Equator en-route. On arrival at the island, home to 39 chimpanzees, you will be given a short introduction and briefing on the sanctuary. After which, its feeding time! It is fascinating to watch the chimps interact with each other and with their keepers. In the relatively short amount of time you are there you will be able to see such different personalities amongst the group, with some whistling for food and others clapping. Obviously the ideal option would be to re-introduce these orphaned chimpanzees to the wild however this is not possible for a number of different reasons and the sanctuary is not bad for second best. Overnight at Ngamba Island Camp.
Day 21: Forest Walk on the Island
For those who have had the required set of medical inoculations, a forest walk with the chimps is a unique experience. The playful chimps climb on you, pull your hair, or just walk along holding your hand! (Clients must have specific up to date vaccinations for this activity, which is restricted to three people at any one time, and should ask for further details before booking).Overnight on Ngamba Island Camp.
Day 22: Drive back to the Main Land
There you will meet your Adventure Trails Safari guide who will transfer you to the Airport for your flight back home.
After breakfast, you will return to the main land where you will meet your safari guide who will transfer you to Entebbe International Airport to meet your flight back home.
